Why self host?
Considering the availability and affordability of the basic requirements for self-hosting useful services, why not? Before getting started with the technical aspects of self-hosting, let’s consider the motivations behind opting for self-hosting. Common sense and experience tells us that while there are downsides as well as upsides to the choices we make, it’s always a good idea to diversify life’s dependencies, especially digital assets.
Regardless of whether one is a professional or running a small business, a hobbyist or just a family, the issues are the same while priorities may shift from one to the other. The key concerns for the cloud or self-hosting are security, privacy, costs, availability of suitable services technical know-how and time investment.

The title of the articles express common motivations: cost and security. While the articles focus on larger scale companies, the advantages for self-hosting are universal and significant. The smaller end is now also participate in this trend because of the advantages I have already outlined.
